Maya
माया
What does Maya mean?
Maya is the cosmic illusion that makes the temporary appear permanent and the material appear ultimately real. It operates through the three gunas and is the reason beings forget their true spiritual nature.
Verse 7.14 is the classic statement: 'This divine maya of mine, consisting of the three gunas, is difficult to overcome. But those who take refuge in me alone cross beyond it.'
