Lagna
लग्न
What does Lagna mean?
The lagna changes roughly every two hours, which is why an accurate birth time matters so much in Jyotish. It defines the body, appearance, and overall direction of life, and it anchors the entire house system of the kundli.
The lord of the lagna (lagnesh) is treated as the captain of the chart: its strength and placement color the whole life. Many astrologers weigh the lagna, Moon sign, and Sun sign together when reading a chart.
