    Jnana Yoga

    ज्ञानयोग

    What does Jnana Yoga mean?

Jnana is liberating knowledge: not information but direct realization that 'I am not this body; I am the eternal atman.' Verse 4.37 compares it to a blazing fire that reduces all karma to ashes.

The path begins with humility and a teacher: 'Learn it by reverent inquiry, service, and questioning; the wise who have seen the truth will teach you' (4.34). Chapter 13 lists the twenty marks of true knowledge, starting with humility and non-violence.
